Bananagrams

Bananagrams

When Meghan and Harry were visiting a charity in Bristol that supports women trapped in, or vulnerable to, street sex work, the Duchess of Sussex suddenly says.

“I have an idea” and asks for a marker pen

Whilst the charity workers make up food parcels for the women, Meghan announces ‘I am in charge of banana messaging!’

And writes different messages on bananas going out to different women, including

‘You are brave’

‘You are strong’

‘You are loved’

Meghan was visiting the charity One25, an organisation that was founded on Christian vision and their culture and practice is still driven by Christian values. They welcome staff, volunteers, trustees, supporters and service users from all faiths and denominations and those who are agnostic or atheist. They do not expect anyone at One25 to subscribe to the Christian faith, just to understand and acknowledge their values.

There is so much to love in this.

I find myself thinking that the words Meghan wrote are still fully founded on Christian values.

I find myself asking what message I would want to place within sight of those in need of encouragement and hope – what my version of banana messaging should be this week.

And I find myself speculating how long it will be until this illustration makes it into a sermon near you!
